Cristobal Huerta Lomeli is a first-generation college graduate and Public Health graduate from the University of California, Merced. Growing up as an immigrant from Mexico, he witnessed firsthand how social, economic, and environmental factors can shape access to health and opportunities. These experiences inspired his passion for public health and his interest in addressing health disparities within underserved communities. Throughout his undergraduate education, he developed interests in global health, environmental health, epidemiology, nutrition, and health policy. Through internships and research experiences, he gained skills in literature reviews, data analysis, research, and communicating scientific information. These experiences strengthened his desire to understand how policies, environmental conditions, and healthcare systems influence population health. He is particularly interested in environmental and global health, recognizing that challenges such as climate change, environmental exposures, infectious diseases, food insecurity, and health inequalities require collaboration across communities and countries. He plans to pursue a Master of Public Health with a focus on Global Health to further develop his knowledge of epidemiology and health policy. His long-term goal is to contribute to programs and policies that improve access to health resources, reduce health disparities, and create healthier and more equitable communities both locally and around the world.
