Louis Lab proudly announces that our team earned the Best Poster Award in Farm Management & Labor at the International Dairy Federation (IDF) World Dairy Summit 2025, held October 20–23 in Santiago, Chile. This global event, hosted for first time in South America, brought together nearly 1,000 participants from over 50 countries, including global leaders, scientists, and industry professionals, to address the most pressing challenges and opportunities in the dairy sector.

The summit’s theme, “Nourishing a Sustainable World,” framed discussions on dairy’s economic, social, and environmental dimensions, with sessions on global markets, regulatory issues, and innovation strategies. The program featured keynote addresses, technical tours, and an exhibition hall showcasing cutting-edge solutions for the future of dairy.

Our award-winning research, “The Unexpected Battle Against Avian Influenza in U.S. Dairy Farms,” addresses a critical intersection of animal health and dairy economics. Led by Dr. Luis García-Covarrubias (UC Davis), Dr. Luis Peña-Lévano (UC Davis), Dr. Allan F. Pinto (Cornell University), and Dr. Richard Pereira (UC Davis), with creative design by Victor Queirolo, the study analyzes how the avian influenza outbreak reverberated through U.S. dairy operations–impacting costs, labor allocation, and overall farm resilience.

The findings provide actionable insights for producers, policymakers, and researchers seeking strategies to mitigate economic shocks from animal health crises. This research will soon be published in the Choices Magazine of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, extending its impact to a broader academic and professional audience.

We thank the International Dairy Federation (IDF) for this recognition. For more details about the summit, please visit idfwds2025.com.
