We are delighted to share that Dr. Luis Peña-Lévano, Assistant Professor of Cooperative Extension at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and Louis’ Lab leader, has been selected for the inaugural 2025 Mentorship and Outreach (Early Career) Award by the Committee on Women in Agricultural Economics (CWAE), a key section of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA).
CWAE is committed to enhancing the representation of women and underrepresented groups in agricultural economics by fostering mentorship, outreach, and professional development. Their mission is to cultivate a more inclusive and supportive environment within the field, a vision that is exemplified by this new award.
The Mentorship and Outreach Award recognizes early-career professionals with outstanding, sustained mentorship and outreach commitment. It highlights individuals who are building a more representative and equitable future for agricultural economics. Dr. Peña-Lévano’s groundbreaking work, which spans inclusive research, teaching, and leadership, has elevated underrepresented voices across borders and inspired the next generation of scholars and professionals.
Dr Peña-Lévano will officially receive this honor during the CWAE/COSBAE/Africa Series luncheon on July 28, 2025, at the AAEA Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado.
